Medusa

Relations

Sisters: Stheno, Euryale
Mother: Keto
Father: Phorkys

Backstory

Medusa was one of the three Gorgon sisters and her parents were Phorkys and Keto (the children of Gaea and Oceanus), unlike her sisters whose parents were Echidna and Typhon (the mother and father of all monsters). Even though Stheno and Euryale were immortal, Medusa was not.
She was originally a beautiful maiden with blonde hair and she was a priestess of Athena, devoted to a life of celibacy. After falling in love with Poseidon, she neglected her vows and married him, offending Athena. The goddess punished Medusa by transforming her golden hair into venomous snakes, her beautiful eyes into inflamed, raging spheres, and her rose-white skin into a repulsive moss-green shade.
After seeing the monster that she had transformed into, Medusa run away and never returned home. She wandered around, rejected and hated by the rest of the world, and her sadness and fear turned her into the monster that everyone was afraid of. After that, Medusa fled to Africa, wandering from place to place, while young snakes dropped from her hair, which caused Africa to become a nest of venomous reptiles. Using the curse of Athena, she turned anyone that looked at her into stone, until she was beheaded by the hero Perseus, who used her head as a weapon, until he gave it to Athena who placed it on her shield.
